April 19, 2007: And the winner is...!

The grand prize goes to Chris (visitor 100,006) who won this fabulous toaster. If you are not much of a toast eater you can put your hampster in to play on cold days!

Second prize goes to StaraRune, (visitor 100,019) who gets this combination toaster/coffee maker. (I'll have mine with lots of milk, thanks!)

Third prize goes to Ki C, who told me she was visitor 100,000 (but didn't post a message until later...I'm sure it's because she was reading my fascinating blog!) Ki C, it may be a simple toaster but it is delivered by two happy-looking guys!

Fourth prize goes to Devo. This toaster has 'magic' glass sides so you can WATCH your toast toasting. How cool is that, eh? (Devo, as a bonus prize I found a shop selling Indian goods on Chong Xiao E Road--including amchoor!)

This last toaster goes to Mr Meowzers who hasn't visited for a couple of days...but I just know he'll be devastated to have missed out. I stole the idea of putting a toaster up for a prize from him so I figured I should give him one. Mr M, there's also a "Sugoi Toaster Glove" in case the toast is too hot for your delicate little paws!

I'm too lazy to blog today, so I did a tarot card test instead:

I must say, I like this reading although I don't think it's exactly right. But to get a 'sun' card on a 'Sunday' I will accept as a good omen and hope that the 'sun' stops hiding behind the wall of clouds!

April 5, 2007: Johari Window

Interesting. I was just linked to a site that has a Johari Window program. I chose six adjectives from a list of 55. These adjectives were ones that I felt described me best out of the list. Almost all of the adjectives are positive. (No, I am NOT going to try the 'Nohari' window, thank you very much!!)
When you click on the link (Xindian Prnicess's Johari Window) you will be shown the same 55 adjectives. You then choose 5 or 6 adjectives that you feel describe me best. They will then be plotted onto four quadrants:

1. Arena: You and I both chose this word (known to self and others)
2. Facade: I chose this word (known to self but not others)
3. Blind spot: You chose this word but I didn't (known to others but not self)
4. Unknown: Neither of us chose these words (not known to self or others)

I think it will be most revealing if you have been following my blog for a while and thus really have a 'feel' for who I am.

March 29, 2007: "The Man In Brown"

It was a good day--The Great Wall, errands, cartoons for PTS. I FINALLY finished sanding the floor downstairs and have varnished 2/3 of it. The fumes were killing me, though, (yes, yes, windows open, lots of ventilation. It's just stinky stuff (varsol + pine resin)) so I had to stop. I will finish the last third tomorrow morning and then hopefully do a second coat in the afternoon.
Today's title refers to the book I started last night, "The Man in Brown," written by Maurice Walsh. It was written in 1946 and to say it is 'dated' is to be wonderfully understated. It's a white man's world, according to the author. The characters use the most ghastly 'modern' slang (modern if it were 1946, I guess.) Reading this is as painful as reading something written in 'leet speak' (13375p34k). However, the story itself is fairly interesting. It also gives me a new perspective on older people: If the views and actions of the characters were considered completely normal and acceptable at the time, then many people say, seventy or above, must find today's world incomprehensible.
I may, or may not finish the book.
