Sophie slept over last night again. Again, it was a
delight having her! This morning we went to play in the creek after
breakfast, then we made these 'boats.'
While
I was upstairs, Sophie 'interviewed' Xiao Man Tou. Watch the whole
thing, the part where she is playing both interviewer and interviewee is
classic. Or maybe I just think so because I love her so!
This
is Part II. I cut the original video in to two pieces as YouTube
thought the whole thing was too long. Just to translate: 'Xiao Man Tou'
means 'Little Steamed Bun' and 'Fei Chang Da Man Tou' means 'Extremely
Big Steamed Bun.' At about 1'28" in Part II Sophie says, "Let's
interview the fatty, now." which sends me into gales of laughter.
Truly, this child is a treasure.
More photos to follow shortly!

March 8, 2007: Phew!
Yea, it's the weekend! This picture is for Kat's 'Feline Friday!'

I did 30 hours of recording this week, 11 of which were on my own. Bowzer will understand that I am one tired little camper.
Very briefly, I had a wonderful birthday (two dinners and two cakes so far, all separate occasions.) I have sanded and varnished almost half the floor. No, it doesn't really take that long, I just haven't had huge amounts of free time to work on it. (Aside from the fact that 2/3 of the holes to be pegged are TOO BIG and thus I had to track down slightly larger dowels. It was I who selected the drill bit and thus it is 100% my mistake. Argh.) Did I mention I have been busy at work?
Tomorrow morning at 8:30 Simon, Sophie and I will go up to Tien Mu for the Orphans Annual Secondhand Book Sale: yea, books! At one I am meeting Bernard for lunch. I worked with Bernard for about a year or so maybe seven years ago. We have met very infrequently since then so I am sure there will be a lot of news to catch up on. At four I am seeing Tsai to have something done with the rat's nest I affectionately call my hair: a few artistic streaks and a trim. Then home to Xindian via the grocery store to prepare for Tilman and my combined birthday brunch. The brunch is kindly being hosted by Angela and Stacy as their home is much more central than mine. This is especially important for Belle who lives in Dansui, about an hour and a half from my place.
What else? Sophie slept over last Saturday. I read a story to her until about 11 pm then we went to sleep. As she is a middle of the night blanket thief I make her bring her own. Uh-huh, and she woke up in the middle of the night saying she was cold, so we had to share anyway, rats. Sunday morning we went to Joufen, about an hour northish from Taipei, with Stacy, Angela and Tsai. We had an awesome day, playing kalah, drinking tea and tea and tea from thimble-sized cups, eating, chatting, taking pictures: Ang got out her Tarot cards and told our fortunes. I didn't believe mine, but then I didnâÂÂt like the result, hmph. We got back to Taipei in the early evening. Stood outside Grandma Nitti's drinking beer and chatting with Simon and some Animals Taiwan people, then over to Jane's for pizza, wine and (more!) chatting. What a surprise.
On our way home Sophie and I stopped to watch the 'sky lanterns' and fireworks over the bitan bridge.
Ok, I must go downstairs and make a shopping list or else I'll be hooped tomorrow and forget to get half the groceries. There will probably be another pause in blogging as I have another very FULL week of taping looming.
Have a wonderful weekend!

February 4, 2007: Home and humour

Here's the fireplace and sofa where I was doing my 'lady of leisure' impression. To the left of the photo you can just make out the outline of Xiao Man Tou ('little steamed bun', a most inappropriate name for my biggest, fattest cat.) In front and to the left of the fire is Dodo, curled up on a quilt. (And yes, my walls are striped in red and orange. There are also pink and yellow stripes a little further down.)
I visited Kitty early Sunday evening. He has become very mellow in the last little while. We had a full-on love and purring session which we both enjoyed.
Then I went over to Jane's. I joined Andy, Simon and Charlie who were finished dinner and hanging out. We admired the 5 pairs of flip-flops that Charlie and Jane had bought. Yes, 5 pairs. You see, they were on sale AND they are going to Kenya next week AND summer is coming. The 'Reef' flip flops were nice but it was hard to get really excited about them...
Today I recorded a workbook in the morning and 5 shows for Enjoy. I got the giggles pretty bad a couple of times, we were all feeling a little silly. It was fun. Then I went to the dentist to have my crown fitted. That was less fun. If all goes well he'll glue it in forever next Monday.
Gosh, what a dull blog. I'll leave you with a bit of humor:
"These terrorism warning pictures are taken from a US government website. The fun thing is that these pictures are so ambiguous they could mean anything! Here are a few interpretations."
Apparently,
these images are considered 'sensitive material' and thus I am not able
to copy them onto my blog. It's a pity because they are extremely
funny. So here is something I copied from someone else's blog a few
weeks back however I didn't note down who it was. (Bowzer, was it you?)
Please let me know so I can credit your fabulous wit!
If
you remember the original Hollywood Squares and its comics, this may
bring a tear to your eyes. These great questions and answers are from
the days when " Hollywood Squares" game show responses were spontaneous
and clever -- not scripted. Peter Marshall was the host asking the
questions.
Q. Do female frogs croak?
A. Paul Lynde: If you hold their little heads under water long enough.
Q. If you're going to make a parachute jump, at least how high should you be?
A. Charley Weaver: Three days of steady drinking should do it.
Q. True or False, a pea can last as long as 5,000 years.
A. George Gobel: Boy, it sure seems that way sometimes.
Q. You've been having trouble going to sleep. Are you probably a man or a woman?
A. Don Knotts: That's what's been keeping me awake.
Q Which of your five senses tends to diminish as you get older?
A. Charley Weaver: My sense of decency.
Q. What are "Do It," "I Can Help," and "I Can't Get Enough"?
A. George Gobel: I don't know, but it's coming from the next apartment
Q. As you grow older, do you tend to gesture more or less with your hands while talking?
A. Rose Marie: You ask me one more growing old question Peter, and I'll give you a gesture you'll never forget.
Q. Paul, why do Hell's Angels wear leather?
A. Paul Lynde: Because chiffon wrinkles too easily.
Q. Charley, you've just decided to grow strawberries. Are you going to get any during the first year?
A. Charley Weaver: Of course not, I'm too busy growing strawberries.

A. Paul Lynde: Make him bark?
Q. If you were pregnant for two years, what would you give birth to?
A. Paul Lynde: Whatever it is, it would never be afraid of the dark.
Q. According to Ann Landers, is there anything wrong with getting into the habit of kissing a lot of people?
A. Charley Weaver: It got me out of the army.
Q. Back in the old days, when Great Grandpa put horseradish on his head, what was he trying to do?
A. George Gobel: Get it in his mouth.
Q. When a couple have a baby, who is responsible for its sex?
A. Charley Weaver: I'll lend him the car, the rest is up to him.
Q. Jackie Gleason recently revealed that he firmly believes in them and has actually seen them on at least two occasions. What are they?
A. Charley Weaver: His feet.

Giving Little One an enema (Repost, January 21, 2007)
Oh. My. Goodness. The fun never stops at the Pink Palace.
Today I took Little One to the vet to have a new thick bandage put on her arm, this to help her bone set straight. The vet suggested leaving it unbandaged until Wednesday. By putting a little pressure on the fracture, the boken surfaces touch and this will help the bone to heal well and quickly. I mentioned that she had little appetite and hadn't had a bowel movement since her accident. "You must put a kitty litter tray in her cage!" I gave him a funny look, laughed and reassured him that there was kitty litter available. "Ah, then you must give her an enema." Yea. This is what an enema looks like:
I have been through this once before with Little Fella. With him it was very easy as he is paralysed in his back half: he felt nothing and so didn't squirm. When we got home, I took Little One into the bathroom with the enema, lifted her tail and then realised I wasn't 100% sure which was her rectum. Both possibilities were very clean (good job, Little One!) and thus uninformative. I sat on the ground laughing my head off--what a ridiculous situation!
I went outside and looked at Xiao Man Tou, one of my male cats. Hmm, apparently the hole closest to the tail. But what if it is different for females? What if I apply the enema to the wrong orifice and it causes yet more problems?
I went upstairs to check my "Cats for Dummies" book. Apparently they don't consider anyone could be so dumb as to not know which was the rectum. Next stop: the Internet. One site I tried had this hilarious story, it'll take you two minutes to read it, please do! There were many sites advising me NOT to do this at home, to do it with two people, not to use a 'human' enema as it's bad for the cat... Finally I found an accurate description of the location of the rectum: Yip, it's the hole closest to the base of the tail. I decided to ignore all the nay-sayers and just give it a go.
Back downstairs in the bathroom, I petted Little One for a couple of minutes, then I grabbed her tail and did the deed. Quick and easy. Within five minutes she produced what was expected.
